Putnam County Composite Squadron

The Putnam County Composite Squadron is a subordinate unit of Civil Air Patrol’s New York Wing. There are more than 2,300 members in New York Wing. 1,114 of these members are cadets ages 12-21 (source: 2020 New York Wing Report).

Members are active in Civil Air Patrol’s three primary missions: emergency services, aerospace education and cadet programs.

The squadron is active in the community and provides support to local, state and national agencies. Locally, members participate as color guard and support staff at events such as the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall, Putnam County Veterans Chow Down, New York Medal of Honor Parade, Wreaths Across America, Children's Expo & Public Safety Day, Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances.

The Cadet Program includes aerospace education, which helps cadets apply math and science principles to real-world phenomena, as well as encourage students to explore career possibilities in the field. It also comprises leadership training to help youth develop management aptitude, character education lessons to build moral fortitude, and physical fitness to develop a healthy physical and mental lifestyle.

Putnam County Composite Squadron cadets have been accepted to the United States Air Force Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Military Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy, United States  Merchant Marine Academy, Air Force,  Army, Navy, National Guard, Purdue, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and many other colleges and universities.
